↑

My heart resembles a decrepit country house under a storm. While I repair the window in the living room, the one in the bedroom invites the rain in. And as I fix the stairs, a lightning strike wounds the roof… I want to be happy and for that I try to improve my relationships with others but, suddenly, I bear the weight of a thousand atmospheres on my skull. I try to calm my anxieties. I try to focus on a positive, comforting idea, but my words become superficial, sentimental, if not downright stupid, and they produce the exact opposite of what I intended : insomnia and obsessive playlets ; nightmare images assail me recurrently. Whenever I take my hammer and nails to fix something, while something else crumbles across the room, I want to suck my teeth like Big Boi in Ms. Jackson's clip—the song of OutKast.

My body is this heart incarnate : the liver is messing around, I take care of my liver, next is the stomach that spins out of control. The gallbladder prematurely returns to ashes, a surgeon removes it, and the resulting acidity accumulation dissolves my bowels. Finally, another "specialist" finds what should be done about my bowels, but now the liver strikes back... and I suck my teeth again. This life is like a glass that leaks its content : we fill it up to no use because it seems to have a drain ; water evaporates in the air.

In other words : while watching the evil winning ground, I am constantly struggling to restore what failed and in doing so I jeopardize what remained untouched, I'm chasing after rainbows. Therefore, when I went to see Ms. Liu a few months ago, I was a wreck trying too hard to heal myself. For the last year, I have been visiting doctor after doctor and went from healing to healing. The only remarkable result of my efforts was my constant deterioration. Ms. Liu scrupulously studied the situation. She traced a few ideograms on a sheet of paper folded in half and said in an authoritative and sharp tone : “Impossible to treat your organs, to treat one is to attack the other. What we have to do is appease the whole.” And it was not difficult : it was easy enough.

As the glass of life empties itself, the glass of the soul gets filled. The glass often seems to be emptied and filled at the same time ; the soul's life as seen through a dolly zoom. To say that one is finished gives extraordinary courage. To say that one gets near the goal is terribly discouraging. It is better to think of yourself as always finished but to do everything you can to get back on track. Should we not fight the shadow away, the prey will inevitably shadow itself. Peace becomes war as water evaporates into the air. At least, the shadow is mobile, it challenges everything, always, and keeps us in a state of continual alacrity. If one loses sight of the whole by isolating each problem, one contributes to spread the chaos on this planet. But if one does not fight ceaselessly, one perishes of the superficial, hidden peace, which one had thought to acquire. The glass must be neither half empty nor half full. The glass depicts the limit. Its only function is to be broken.

We must never stop fighting, but we must never seek a victory over evil. There is no victory to be gained, neither over evil nor anything else. We must only seek to repair injustices and create conditions for peace. We are not alive either in sickness or in health, but when the effort is put to obtain health. We are alive neither in war nor in peace, but in the effort to repair injustices and help peace flourish. At every moment of our lives, we find ourselves in a precarious balance on a wire over two infernos. This wire is as sharp as a razor. Its cutting edge is the clearest image we can have of happiness ■

↑

LE DISPOSITIF is a collection of 52 videos of varying length. It is an orientation, explanation and conditioning program.

Fragmentation, being a paradoxical consequence of globalization, is an internal human process that spreads throughout modern times. This phenomenon is commonly compared by specialists in India to the era of the goddess Kali (Kali Yuga). They can see there a form of self-cannibalism that manifests itself most commonly as a representation of oneself being a collection of separate parts, each seen as a fetish.

The symptoms are numerous: pandemic development of multiple personalities, tabula rasa (blank slate levelling) psychological projects by Dr. Cameron, chaotic and simultaneous appearance of serial killers and fast food chains, or metastatic ubiquity of stars who do not know very well where they stand when the most famous among them are asking themselves the question (in posters, TVs, human brains or hard drives?).

In today's world, one only appears in parts. LE DISPOSITIF produces an electrical current that aims at rearranging the pieces and generate mental bifurcation areas. A "Restored Man" project has repeatedly been evoked in history: it would be the effect of the bicameral divine voice—represented in turn by the face of the Fox, the Butterfly, and the Seahorse—revealing itself as Birdmen, distant root representatives of humanity with its unclear origin (Mazdean Fravashi, Angels, Aliens?).

Assuming that all information is pollution, the viewer is offered a variety of perspectives operated by LE DISPOSITIF which strengthen its immune system to confront the waves of chaos and dislocation to come.

LE DISPOSITIF, is created by Thomas Bertay & Pacôme Thiellement and produced by Sycomore Films: <a href="http://vimeo.com/sycomorefilms
